GLASGOW

Scotland's biggest city, Glasgow boasts some fantastic architecture, good shopping and a vibrant nightlift.

City highlights

  • Buchanan Street: pedestrian shopping area where you can enjoy some serious retail therapy as well as striking Victorian architecture

  • Burrell Collection: an impressive art collection amassed by a wealthy industrialist who then donated it to the city

  • Glasgow Cathedral: a great example of gothic architecture

  • The Macintosh House: the beautiful home of Charles Mackintosh, the celebrated turn-of-the-century Scottish architect and artist, with stunning interiors

  • Glasgow School of Art: seen by many as Mackintosh's greatest building

Events

  • Commonwealth Games: From 23 July to 3 August, Glasgow is hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games – like a mini-Olympics for the 53 Commonwealth countries. It's may be too late to get hold of tickets, but if you can it will no doubt be an entertaining event!
